Boho Feather Accessories

Summer time means music festivals, camping, beach days, fun events, and being carefree! Bohemian style is all in and cute feather accessories are easy to make, beautiful, and will help you get in the summer spirit! Follow along to learn how to make a headband, necklace, hair tie, or armband!

Supplies you’ll need:

-Leather suede in the color of your choice (length will vary depending on what you want to make)

-Different colored beads in various sizes

-Black Bronze Wild T-Base Turkey Plumage Feathers

-4 Inch Strip of Natural Beige Strung Rooster Schlappen (separated into individual feathers)

-Natural Almond Ringneck Pheasant Plumage Feathers

-Fabric glue

-Scissors

Step 1:

Decide on what you would like to make: a headband, armband, hair tie, or necklace! The basic instructions will be the same for each project, you just need to know what length to cut for what you specifically want to make. A headband will use the most, a necklace or hair tie uses a medium length, and an armband uses the shortest length.

Step 2:

Cut your desired length of suede! For a headband, you want to have two pieces that each wrap around your head and have 8-10” of extra length on both ends. For a necklace, you want it to be between 50-55” and for a hair tie, you want it to be between 12-15”. And lastly for an armband, you want it to be able to wrap around your arm twice with about 2 inches of extra length on each end.

Step 3:

String several beads to the ends of each length of suede in whatever order you like. Tie knots between each one, every other one, or just at the top and bottom! Get creative with it. Make sure you leave enough length at the bottom to attach a large bead to stick feathers into.

Step 4:

Place the larger bead at the end of the suede and tie it off. Trim the excess length below the knot. Put a few drops of fabric glue into the inside of the bead and gently press one or two feathers in so that the bead is covering the quill tip of the feathers. Let it dry and repeat with the other ends! Use all of the same kind of feathers or combine several kinds together!

Step 5:

Tie your new accessory to fit you! If it’s a hair tie, simply wrap it around your ponytail or braid in place of or on top of a typical elastic hair tie and tie it off in a double knot with an inch or two hanging off. For a headband, measure the length around your head and double tie the two suede chords together so that the feathers hang down in the back of your head. For an armband, double knot it to your upper arm so that it will stay secure all day. And finally, for a necklace, wrap it once around your neck, cross it in the back, and drape it over your shoulders so that it sits nicely! You are done!
