Burlesque Costumes & Ostrich Feathers

Burlesque & Feathers

Burlesque performances were very popular from 1830’s to the 1890’s in London.  The formats of these burlesque shows are usually formed as comedies and parodies of well-known plays, they have also been risqué in their presentation.  Burlesque shows are still around today and their costumes are legendary.  The most prominent material necessary for any burlesque show is feathers.  Ostrich plumes are used in various props as well as costumes worn by the dancers.
