Feathers are beautiful pieces to add around the eyes and when combined with your costume or even gems or sequins, it can give you that extra spooky or whimsical feel. Here we will give you some ideas on feathers to use as well as simple instructions on how to apply the feathers and our tips and tricks!

Picking Feathers-

Choosing your feathers is going to be your first step. If you are going for a classic, dramatic look as the main focal point of your costume we recommend choosing a black or brown feather with some shine or iridescence to it. You can also coordinate your feathers to your costume and choose colors or patterns accordingly! Whatever you choose, definitely go with softer, lighter feathers so that they will be more comfortable to wear. Here are some of our favorites:

Guide To Applying Feathers-

Supplies you’ll need:

-Eye and face makeup

-Feathers of your choice (tippet feathers, guinea plumage feathers, rooster schlappen, etc.)

-Eyelash glue

-Scissors

-Gems, sequins, or cosmetic glitter

Step 1:

Apply regular eye and face makeup of your choosing. Since it’s Halloween, consider looks like smoky eyes, bold or bright eyeliner, or metallic eyes shadow! False lashes are also fun to add as well.

Step 2:

Get your feathers ready by laying them out and making piles of feathers that are relatively the same size. This will help you when gluing them and make the process much simpler and faster. Trim the quill tips off of the feathers that you plan to use if they are too long or too pointy, and if necessary, trim down larger feathers to the size or shape that you desire.

Step 3:

Eyelash glue is going to be your best friend for attaching the feathers since it is safe for skin contact and will wash off relatively easily, while still making sure the feathers will stay on your face all day long. Apply small amounts in little sections around your eyes (but be careful not to apply too close- safety first) where you would like to attach the feathers. Press the feathers onto the glue and hold it in place for a few seconds to dry. Repeat until you have achieved the look you want! Attach glue directly to the feathers as you go if you need to layer feathers on top of one another. If you would like to add gems or sequins you may also attach them with the eyelash glue! You are done!
