The Great Gatsby Inspired Wedding

Easy Ways to use feathers for your wedding

Recently we've had a lot of calls from wedding planners and brides asking about different ways to use feathers for a wedding. Since The Great Gatsby movie came out in May, many brides were inspired to have this uber-glamorous vintage style as their theme.

Using feathers is fun, but there are so many different types of feathers knowing which to choose can be over-whelming. I'll make the choice easy. Our go-to Gatsby feather is the ostrich plume. And here is why...

Ostrich Plumes and Drabs - Use them on your wedding centerpiece, bridal bouquet, wedding cake and headpiece. Ostrich plumes are bigger and softer compare to drabs so they are more expensive. If you are on a budget, you can buy ostrich feathers in bulk. Because of price, drabs are the way to go for most people. Rhinestones and pearls are necessary accessories to really capture that Gatsby decadence. As for the color, try black, gold and silver! Small ostrich drabs on your invitations and escort cards will round out the look. Your guest will be very impressed!

Ostrich Fringe - What's a wedding gown without our two-ply ostrich fringe!! Add it on your train for that soft and romantic touch on your lace and sequin dress. You can sew it or glue them on depending on the look you want. Also add them on your chairs, purse and on your bridesmaid headpiece.

Ostrich isn't your only option. Below Great Gatsby female lead Carey Mulligan sports fur and dyed grey rooster feathersMarabou feather trim would also be a great alternative to that fur. Both these types of plume would also be a great addition to your headpiece and bouquet.
