For hundreds of years feathers have been used to adorn
clothing and to embellish jewelry. Some
feathers are more popular than others and have been widely used for a variety
of fashion practices. Although feathers
took a back seat in the styling of clothing for many years, they are back! Most women’s style is more subtle than those
fashioned by designers of New York runways. So regardless of whether you like
to adorn yourself with feathers from head to toe, or a simple accent is more
your style, feathers are the coolest clothing accent.
Top 3 Accent Feathers
For Clothes:
Rooster- These
small delicate, soft feathers are one of the most used. They are inexpensive and designers and
crafters may purchase feathers
wholesale to add a lot of “bang for their buck.” Rooster feathers are used on clothing in mass numbers. Unlike larger, more noticeable feathers,
rooster feathers need to be used in bulk to make a large impression on the
clothes they adorn. Rooster feather
trims and bodices on gowns look amazing.
These feathers can be used on clothing throughout the year and never
seem to go out of style.
Peacock- This
bright iridescent feather is one of the most easily recognized and sought after
feathers. Their brilliant feathers have
been sewn onto blazers and dresses to update style. Even when actual feathers are not being used
the peacock feather print is highly popular.
Prints are used on casual clothing items regularly such as t-shirts,
blouses and day dresses. Shoes such as heeled booties utilize real peacock
feathers for stylish flare and classic heels are embroidered with peacock feathers.
Pheasant- Pheasant feathers are suited best for cool weather
months. From September to January,
pheasant feathers are highly used to give clothing a festive look. Due to the classic shape of these striped and
spotted feathers, they make great accents for necklines on dark colored
clothing items. Brown and black jackets,
capes and fancy dress trims are the perfect canvases for pheasant
feathers. One item that uses these
feathers in a timeless manner is hats.
Fedoras, which are often worn by men and women, are given a splash of
style by incorporating a single feather accent or a band entirely encompassed by
pheasant feathers.
