Here's How to Avoid a Cookie-Cutter Valentine's Day
1) Go overboard. Overboard doesn’t have to mean over budget. Try having a nice dinner at home. Get off work a bit early and get some take-out food from your favorite deli. We recently discovered a Lassen’s right near our house that has wonderful food. Make dinner special with some pink flowers from the grocery store, a nice thrift store vase and add in some peacock feathers or ostrich feathers for flare. Break out the nice silverware and you’ve got a nice dinner on a budget and a great table decoration that will last another week.

2) DIY. Instead of buying a card, make one yourself. If you’re not too creative or just want to save time, start with a store bought card. Something vintage. Break out your hot glue gun and embellish the cover with a little bouquet of turkey feathers in assorted colors. Top it all off with a felt sticker (heart of course) or a cabochon resin charm. Something home-made from the heart in no time at all.
3) Decorate your home, office or car! Feather trim and feather boas are great decorating tools that are fast and easy. This Valentine’s Day being a Thursday, most of us have to work. Find an excuse to get away the day before and decorate the place where your special someone will spend their day. Get some strung Goose Nagoire or marabou boa and your clear tape. Use it to trim the edges of their office window, computer monitor, car dashboard, in the home it looks great on the bottoms of hanging photo frames. Fast and easy. Don’t forget to save some to decorate your area. This will get both of you in the loving mood.
