Top 5 – Kids Friendly Christmas Crafting Ideas

Fun Christmas Craft ideas with Feathers!

Christmas is one of the most popular times for crafting. Enthusiasts, teachers, and parents are often looking for creative new crafts to keep themselves, students or children occupied throughout the holiday season. Not only will these items keep you busy, they can also double as home decorations or create one-of-a-kind gifts to give to loved ones. No matter the level of expertise, all of these crafting ideas can be tailored to suit the age or ability of most individuals.

Tulle Wreaths - Tie 9”sections of tulle into a double knot with green or red tulle around a plain Styrofoam wreath. You will need a lot of tulle for this job, but it can be created without much thought while you are carrying a conversation or watching your favorite holiday movie. Buy a reindeer, Santa Clause or peacock feathers to adhere to your finished wreath with hot glue. Complete with a bow.

Plastic Sandwich Bag Wreath - This project is time consuming but requires little thought. Purchase inexpensive plastic sandwich bags without a zip-lock seal. Mold a metal clothing hanger into a circular shape and keep the hook as is. Tie individual bags in double knots to cover the hanger completely. Fill in any bare spots with more tied clear plastic bags. Place miniature candy canes and peppermints inside some of the bags to create a winter candy land wreath. Complete your wreath by attaching a red and white bow near the hooked end of the hanger.

Ornaments - There is such an endless amount of opportunities that a glass globe ornament can present. For colored ornaments decorate with paint and metallic marker pens. Purchase Christmas inspired feathers like blue feathers, green feathers, white feathers and red feathers to place inside round or teardrop shaped clear ornaments. Acrylic paint can be lightly squirted inside clear globe ornaments in various hues and swirled around to create beautiful pieces of art.

Cards - There is no craft as simple or wide-ranging as creating Christmas cards. They can be as easily made from a piece of cardstock or construction paper folded in half or as complex as a three dimensional card with scrapbooking stickers and embellishments. Purchase an array of crafting materials from your local craft store to use. Markers, pencils, crayons and stickers are the best supplies to offer to young children.

Stockings - With an inexpensive store bought Christmas stocking you can create a fun craft project for kids or a family to do together. Add a thin layer of cardboard or paper to the inside of the stocking so that paint will not seep through. Purchase puff paints, fabric paint and glitter to individually decorate your stocking. Each person’s name along with a simple drawing or design can create personalized stockings that your family looks forward to re-hanging each year.
