Decorating your home at Christmas time is always fun and a wonderful time of year but do you ever get just a little bit tired of bringing out the same old decorations year after year? Of course, it’s still tradition to hang the childrens’ home made decorations and all those baubles that have been handed down through the generations on the tree, but wouldn’t it be nice to embrace a little change and create some stylish displays throughout the rest of your home too?

Most of us have a color scheme that we tend to stick to at home in the holidays, whether it’s classic red white and green or a frosty silver, white and blue, but have you ever thought of what other decorations you can create on your sideboards and mantelpieces apart from the obligatory glass vase filled with baubles?

Whilst not really seen as a Christmas decoration, feathers can make a lovely addition to the home at this time of year. Placed in ceramic or glass vases alone or added in with your Christmas flower arrangements, twigs or sprays of holly, they’ll add an unusual yet chic touch to a room.

Why not try weaving feathers into your wreath to create an eye-pleasing front door accessory that your visitors and neighbors will also enjoy, or place them in the corners of mirrors so the color is reflected back into the room.

Feathers come in a rainbow of colors so you'll be able to work them into your Christmas color scheme perfectly.  Do you go for a modern black and white theme? Plumes in those colors, or perhaps even in a shocking pink as a pop of color, will look amazing against your minimalist back drop. If you’re more traditional in your home red and white feathers to match your candy canes will be perfect. Or do you like to create a winter wonderland effect during the holidays? If so, a selection of white and blue feathers that have a hint of silver running through them will make your finished effect look like you’ve hired an interior designer to organize your holiday home!

To complete the look, pay attention to the little details. A feather placed under the ribbon of a gift wrapped present makes a stunning touch – and will help to coordinate the pile of presents under the tree with the rest of the room, at the very least!

When laying the table for your Christmas meal, don’t forget to create a center piece for the table or sideboard and go one step further and add a single color coordinated feather to each place setting. You could place it though the napkin ring, or if you’re feeling arty and ambitious why not hand make place settings using a feather and a matching card to write your guests names on.

However you celebrate the holidays, by using a little imagination you can create a wonderful atmosphere that might even become a new tradition all of its own.
